Church & State Walking Tour: Parkman Memorial Chapel

57 West Main Street

In 1959, the Congregational Evangelical Church decided to build the Parkman Memorial Chapel, which was completed and dedicated in 1964. The dimensions of the chapel are exactly the same as the town’s original meeting house that was on Powder Hill. The chapel is dedicated to Westborough’s first minister, Reverend Ebenezer Parkman, who served in the position for 58 years (1724-1782). If you go inside, you can see the Bible that he used during his services. The pulpit that he stood behind while preaching sits inside the chapel as well. Make sure to look for the plaques and signs, both inside and out, to learn more about Parkman and his life.
